I love New Zealanders. I’ve even married one which I guess makes my son half Kiwi (so perhaps I’m biased). And while I’m still not sure about the All Black onesie his uncles bought him, there’s no denying that the country produces some excellent advertising.
One of my favourite brands and prime examples of this is Air New Zealand. They perfectly capture the humour and friendliness of a nation and distill it throughout their brand.
Their safety videos are perfect embodiments of this.
But its also an understanding of the importance of little things that drives my admiration of the brand. My wife still remembers handing out lollies as a child on flights. These simple lollies have such love and affinity by many Kiwis (seriously… ask one!)
Their advertising rocks and continually hits the mark. Summer Wonderland was warm and funny and played beautifully to the airline’s identity, its essence even.
Their Christmas was the pick of the ’17 season for me. You have to love a brand… and a nation that can take the piss out of themselves. It makes for a tremendous experience flying too and to my mind beats the generic, “premium” feel offered up by many other airlines.
